What if you were given the opportunity, to go and take photos at an Ice Castle? We are talking about Elsa's ( from Frozen ) other house!! Ok, maybe not, but it sure looked like it!
Why wouldn't we jump on this? I mean, HOLY COW! What an experience. ALMOST ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE!!
My friend Marsha and Scott asked our new friends that we met this Fall; Ashley and Jesse, if I could take Marsha and Scott's pictures at the Ice Castles.
Let me back up a bit. Ashley and Jesse came here to WI for the fall and winter to build an Ice Castle here in Lake Geneva WI. We met Ashley and Jesse at church and became really good friends.
Jesse and Ashley approved for me to take Marsha and Scotts pictures during the day. (During the day is when the workers get the ice castle ready for the visitors in the evening time because the ground freezes from icicles melting and freezing the ground. So the workers, break the ground up, so by the evening time, it is easier for the visitors to walk on)
I was able to experience the Ice Castles during the Day with Marsha and Scott and then in the Evening with my family. Both hours of the day are INCREDIBLE!! It is simply MAGICAL!
What blew my mind was the details that can be created onto ICE. I have no clue what tools they used to build this beautiful feature, but it was like going into someones house, and walking into their Living area, then you turn a corner and go down a hall and your in another room. One area had a circular stair case ( but without the stairs, it was a flat icy surface to get to the top, and how you got down was going down their slide. YES, you read right, AN ICE SLIDE!!! Think of a long hollow cube, big enough for adults to go down onto. In the other direction, there was a tunnel for kids to climb into and they went down their own hollow ice slide! (( HOW DO THEY BUILD THAT? ))
There is an area you walk down and go into a room, and there is this big ice cauldron and built over and onto this cauldron is the icicle feature. Its as if Elsa goes into that room to do some magic of some sort!! It was incredible!
Now, sometimes when you looked up, you would see the sky, and in other areas, you would see icicle chandeliers. The details, the work, the time, the VISION that was put into this is simply remarkable! This is a GIFT, a TALENT.
Now, I could do my best in explaining what everything looked like, but you will just have to go see the Ice Castles In Lake Geneva WI for yourself!
During Marsha and Scotts photo shoot we were so grateful that it wasn't that cold. Major bonus; it wasn't raining or snowing. Well, Actually, If it was snowing, I wouldn't complain, but, that does put a damper on the clients hair, Especially since she has curly. Every thing worked out and We had such a beautiful time together.
This experience actually challenged me as a photographer because we took pictures at 1pm with full Sunlight. So realistically I am extremely grateful to have had this opportunity to learn and grow more!
If you are ever given the opportunity to go see Ice Castles; GO!!!!
