Growing up I did NOT do well in school, and because of that, I didn't like it. I think many of you can relate to that. How many of you tried doing something and when we didn't do well, we wanted to quit.
Well, GUESS WHAT? After MANY years of trying to figure out a way for me to "GET IT", the light bulb has finally gone off to what we ALL could do to try to "GET IT".
My sister in law is a teacher, educator, and evaluates kids on how they learn so she can help them understand their strengths and weaknesses. She told me a statistic about how the majority of the population learns. When she shared with me what I am about to share with you, my mind was blown. So, I decided to do some research and learn a few more details on this statistic.
IT'S TRUE and IT WORKS!!!!!
Almost all of us waste 90% of our time from reading, studying, and learning something ONCE!!
ONCE........UNO.......EIN........UN... how ever many ways you can say ONE, we waste time by learning ONCE!!!
Isn't that crazy???
I am guilty of this. If I read or watch something once, I'm trying to take as many notes as possible to cram in the information that I want or need to learn. I'm not saying that taking notes the first time is bad, but if I did it more than once, maybe it would stick.
My Friends; you're in LUCK, Because that is just the answer.
Answer? You gave us an answer?
Ok, Here me out for a minute and let me explain something to you.....
I gathered some information from a study and research on the percentages on how and what we learn from at www.psychotactics.com . You can read more about their research if you'd like, but I'd like to share with you what grabbed my attention, and what the percentages are from what we learn from.....
90% of what we learn comes from teaching someone.
75% of what we learn is from taking the information and putting it into practice.
50% of what we learn is when we are engaged in a group discussion.
30% of what we learn is when we see a demonstration.
20% of what we learn is from Audio-visual.
10% of what we learn is from Reading.
5% of what we learn is from a Lecture.
Okay, so with this being said, my sister in law told me that a majority of the world learns when things are readTHREE TIMES. So, if we take some of these tasks and accomplish them three times, imagine how much more we would know.
Think of it; when you go to see a new movie, and reminisce about what happened when the movie is over, there may be some clips that stuck out to you, but when you go and see it again, new clips stick out and you remember even more.
SOOOOOO why don't we do this when we are learning? I'll be the first to tell you again, that when I read something, I don't want to read it again, let alone a third time.
BUT, what if we re-trained ourselves to do that?
What if we built the habit of reading, watching, and studying that particular topic/subject THREE TIMES?
Why don't we teach others more about what we learn? 90% of what you learn comes from teaching!!!
BUT....................... Did you also know that you need to make MISTAKES in order to learn???
I REPEAT......Did you know that you need to make MISTAKES in order to Learn?
Now that is a funny concept. Isn't the world portraying "PERFECTION"?
There is no such thing as perfection. You become your very best when you fail, get back up, and try again. Only THEN have you accomplished it, and become even better than before.
WHAT A CONCEPT!!!
So; I am here to share with you all the importance of Education.
Knowledge is Key.
Read it Three times.
Study it Three Times.
Teach Someone what you are learning.
Demonstrate what you have learned.
Find groups of people that share the same interest to talk and share information.
Practice doesn't make you Perfect, it makes you Better Today than you were Yesterday. Tomorrow is a whole new step on the ladder to climb to succeed at what you love the most.
Never give up my friends. We are all here to Learn, Grow and Help Each other!!
